where to train
by Carleen
(UK)
I am seeking a yoga training course that will deepen my personal awareness, improve my confidence and give insight into all aspects of the yogic lifestyle and practices, with a view to sharing and teaching women's well-being classes.
There are so many courses out there... I don't know where to start! I live in the UK, I'm 48 this year, so would prefer something that isn't just about looking good in your yoga pants if you know what I mean!
Yogi Mir's Answer:
Dear Carleen,
I know what you mean. Yoga has become a commercialized industry with the focus on vanity and fitness instead of a personal journey of self-discovery.
To find authentic yoga teacher trainings and workshops, one must look at traditional yoga schools. Such places will have a spiritual foundation behind them with yoga philosophy and traditional teachings as an integral part.
Take a look at the following schools and their programs:
Integral Yoga
Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville® is a vibrant spiritual center founded by Sri Swami Satchidananda. A unique Yoga community, it serves as an oasis for spiritual unfoldment, benefiting residents and guests alike. Situated on the banks of the James River in Buckingham, Virginia with the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop.
Sivananda Yoga
International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres is a non-profit organization named after Swami Sivananda, one of the most influential spiritual teachers of the 20th century and founded by his disciple Swami Vishnudevananda.
The mission - to spread peace, health and joy through yoga. All are welcome to come to our ashrams and centres to learn not only about how yoga can help maintain a healthy body but also how yogic philosophy, applied in daily life, can help maintain a peaceful mind and spirit.
There are many other wonderful programs and teachers who integrate authentic teachings into their Teacher Training Programs. Feel free to send me an email about a specific teacher or program that you may be considering.
Namaste!
